Cardinal Sin

As many have heard by now, newly signed Arizona Cardinal Joey Porter has been arrested for allegedly being drunk and slapping the hand of a police officer.

This is not shocking news as Porter is known for his pre game antics, having been shot, and allegedly being apart of an altercation with former Bengals offensive tackle Levi Jones.

The biggest concern with the Cardinals' offseason has been the loss of leadership. Kurt Warner and Karlos Dansby were the leaders of the offensive and defensive huddles. Anquan Boldin was known as a locker room leader, inspite of his contractual circumstances.

All of them have departed in an offseason that left them with more questions than answers. Early Doucet is a good young receiver, but can he replace Boldin's tenacity and fire? Is Leinart the same guy who beer bongs with college chicks, or is he ready to take over this team? Can Derek Anderson take over if Leinart can't?

Adding a known volatile character to a team searching for a new identity can be - at the least - a huge distraction. At the most, it can divide a locker room.

Porter can still play. The Steelers and Dolphins didn't want him for a reason. I just hope the Cardinals have a behavioral clause in their contract with Porter.

Kampman All Klass

It's not very often I come across a news story that surprises me, but that is exactly what happened this Saturday. Pro Football Talk featured a posting on Aaron Kampman, the newly signed Jacksonville Jaguar and former Green Bay Packer. Kampman took out a full page ad in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel thanking the Packers, their fans, and the entire community.

At a time when it seems celebrities and sports figures only make statements that are self serving or simply damage control (i. e. Tiger Woods, Mark McGwire, Kobe Bryant) and usually written by a P. R. person, Kampman's statements are heartfelt and genuine.

Known as an awesome “locker room guy”, a hard worker in practice, and a team leader, many would say that Kampman had more than earned his money's worth, and owed the Packers and its fans nothing. This show of humility proves that the Packers lost more than just another football player.

Tim Tebowitis

I have noticed that the majority of comments from users about Tim Tebow on blogs and forums (where public opinion is really formed) are negative. With this draft lacking a healthy or participating skill player near the top, Tebow has become its focus and that has caused some backlash (or Cushlash if that is more appropriate).

From my prospective, Tim Tebow’s wide ranging draft stock, views on faith, and undeniable leadership and character is giving this draft what it needs:  a story that brings in extreme viewpoints. Few people will sit around and debate the pedigree or selection of Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy. What they will do is discuss Tim Tebow regardless of where he is selected in the NFL draft.

When you have a person who is a quarterback, religious figure, and an anointed head figure rolled up into one , the media has a gold mine. It’s like having Brett Favre, the Pope, and George W. Bush rolled up into one. Make no mistake, Tim Tebow will continue to use this media coverage to get his viewpoints across and the media will continue to eat it up until the real season kicks off.

So love them or hate them, figures like Tim Tebow will dominate the big time football media as long as we continue to love them or hate them.
